Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Why SACONTACT?
- According to recent statistics there are as many as one million ex South Africans scattered throughout the world, and it is becoming increasingly difficult to maintain contact with friends and relatives. SACONTACT aims to help by maintaining an up to date searchable database of ex-South Africans' contact details.
But isn't there already such a service?
- There are various web sites in existence whose stated aim is to facilitate finding long-lost friends. Unfortunately our experience with them is that the service is generally poor, the information is outdated, and the web sites are flooded with annoying advertisements.
So what makes SACONTACT different?
- Most other similar web sites are free, and as the saying goes: "You get what you pay for". We charge a nominal annual membership fee - this ensures that our database is kept up to date and that the information is reliable and usable!
Who can join your service?
- Our subscription service is open to ex-South Africans (and South Africans) living in any country. Premium Members can enter and update their own information in the SACONTACT database.
Can anyone use your service?
- Premium Members have full access to our service at only US$5.00 p.a. This allows them to perform database searches as well as entering and updating their own information as and when they require.
- Free members are required to register using a valid e-mail address, after which they are also able to search the database.
Isn't there a risk in making my contact information publicly available?
- Yes, unfortunately there are many persons out there who can and will misuse such information, that is why we will never make your details available to a third party (except where required by law). Instead the e-mail address and a message from anyone wishing to contact you will be sent to you, and you have the choice of whether or not to respond to that person. In this way your privacy is always protected. See also our Privacy Policy.
Is that all that you offer?
- By no means! Being a web site geared towards the South African ex-pat we also provide other useful features, such as a social calendar and message forum (coming soon!), and links to useful web sites such as currency converters, time zone maps, Consular addresses, and more.
